Fellowships in Krasang/Surin July 2008

In a convoy of three cars the RC party arrived after some 5 and half hours drive at their destination Krasang, via Buriram. On arrival, at the RC Krasang is also a sister RC of the RCES – the troupers were welcomed by PP Peter Rottmann ( he is the RCES comprador in the Krasang region) welcomed traveling party and led the way through a number of projects predominantly concentrating on Water Filtration Systems to schools with 300 to 2500 children in the region where our visiting RC is a major co-sponsor on many projects.
These 3 projects with their equipment up and running to expectations, deliver potable water and are in use from three month or longer to school kids, elderly and destitute.
The RCES have already delivered some 80 English Language CD’s to those schools visited and other schools (even in one instance to a government department to improve language skills of their staff). This teaching aid is used by tutors to improve teaching skills and the learning progress to the children of our projects.
Minor projects with major problems of individuals in dire health or personal almost hopeless situations became part of the program to show the exercised humanitarian support our club is able to assist in on regular bases; ranging from an AIDS affect young girl, to a blind and quadriplegic man who suffered a ferocious accident to a boy who has neither hands and just two stumps of legs. A touching moment was a very old lady, who is unaware of her true age, unable to really support herself with enough food. Such, the RCES is delivering, through P Rottmann and his lovely wife Nit in the course of one a month some 5 food packages to folks who have truly not enough to buy the very basics in food items or otherwise for most of the year. The writer wishes not to get in to further details, but those in the party were touched by what poverty, hardship, near to hopelessness they came to witness first hand.

It was a short, but certainly informative visit and Peter Rottmann came up with a tasty farewell BBQ party with Thai flair on the grounds of his splendid and impressive estate. Thank you Nit and Peter for your generous hospitality.

... the party split and the good members of the RC Bergheim/Erft were taken by bus to Hua Hin where they enjoyed some stress relieve from continued information extravaganza, fresh impressions and the unexpected, sometimes cruel and destitute live standards of amazing Thailand where hope is limited for betterment. With both our Clubs Rotary spirit in tact to help, where help is possible within the means of compassionate assistance and cash I know we are dedicated to succeed.
